The 6 Sonatas by J.B. Boismortier (1691-1755) for two
'celli work wonderfully in transcription for bass clarinet duet. Each
Sonata consists of four short movements. Boismortier was a French
composer of the Baroque era, known for his prolific output of
accessible solo and chamber music for various instruments. The composer
makes use of imitation throughout, and therefore the two parts are
virtually equal in range and difficulty. The Sonatas would make an
excellent project for a high school duo, an easy addition to a college
recital, or just enjoyable playing for any bass clarinet duo.
